This news comes at an especially good time, as the “Drifters” have not only just released their debut recording, but they were also chosen from scores of good California bands as a California Showcase act at the California Bluegrass Association’s Father’s Day Bluegrass Festival in Grass Valley, CA, which takes place June 12-15 2008. Congratulations to the hot new band in town, Natural Drift!
Here’s Matt Dudman, Rick Harris and Denis Colleret in the Pleasant Valley Music showroom today working up an arrangement for “I Woke Up This Morning With My Mind Stayed on Jesus”. This song is to be included on Rick’s forthcoming gospel recording on Squirty Records.
Surfed by the International Bluegrass Music Museum webpage today and found this lovely piece. Turns out the good folks there at the IBMM have dedicated this year’s ROMP festival to ole Jakey. Check out these screenshots from their page:
This week we (and when I say “we”, I really mean mostly Jenny!) put in new flooring in the studio. Conventional wisdom on recording acoustic music holds that such instruments sound better, or more live, on reflective surfaces. Most of the nicer studios prefer hardwood to other types of reflective surfaces, so that’s the way we went. Pleasant Valley handyman George Goodell is pictured below getting the project started off.
Well, some nice news for today. Pleasant Valley Music old-time artist Mt. Diablo String Band is now a Squirty Recordsrecording artist! Yesterday we had a visit from the band, consisting of ‘Meistro’ Harry Liedstrand (fiddle), Carl Pagter (banjo), Harry’s wife Cindy (guitar) and son Terrell (mandolin), Carl’s son Corbin (mandolin), and PVM’s own Matt Dudman (string bass), here at Pleasant Valley’s Squirty Records Studios to record the band’s first demo!
In just two short hours the band showed up, rehearsed, set up the studio, and laid down no less than 6 tunes. Matt engineered the session, adding that “It was one of the easiest sessions I’ve ever done, on the engineering side. These guys are old-time all the way. We just set up a couple of room mics and sat around and picked! There was no mixing or mastering to do! Just burn it to a CD!”
For a little taste of how it sounded listen to a clip here.
The session went so well that there was even talk afterward about moving toward actually doing a full length recording, so keep your eyes peeled for it!
Yep, that’s right. ANOTHER one! The girls like doing promo stuff. Their task this weekend was to get a shot of the band playing live for promotional material purposes. After all, we didn’t have a photo of the band performing live with BanjoBoy …
Our buddy George Goodell showed up at PVM to do some of his famous repairs around the building, but instead we enlisted him as photographer. What do ya know!
So here’s a little taste of what ya get when you want to book RoseBud Blue!
We had a wonderful visit Sunday afternoon with our old friend T. Tyce Tennessee, announcer for Pleasant Valley Music. T. Tyce was here at Pleasant Valley home base, in the Squirty Records Studios, for some voice-over work and to interview Matt & George about the Pleasant Valley Boys, all as part of the forthcoming “Pleasant Valley Music Show”, which will be distributed to DJ’s around the world. The Show introduces bluegrass radio listening audiences to the band and to Pleasant Valley Music, as its sponsor. Keep an ear out for it, coming soon!
Pleasant Valley Recording artist RoseBud Blue’s Jenny Lynn Williams has been recording vocals under the tutelage of master vocalist and producer Keith Little. Here’s a clip of some of the gems he imparts … !
Preproduction has officially begun on the forthcoming Rick Harris Band gospel project. Something of a departure for Squirty Records, this forthcoming recording features the ‘outlaw country’ style of Rick and his band, and will be recorded both at Squirty and the nearby SoundFarm studios. Stay tuned for more details and progress …
